First-time steel tower importers from China often feel uncertain about the whole process: What steps are involved from sending an inquiry to receiving the goods? What should you watch for at each step? Could something go wrong in between? This article breaks down the 7 steps of steel tower export so you know what to expect throughout.
Customers send requirements via website form, email, or WhatsApp, including: tower type, height, application scenario, destination port, and quantity. We respond within 24 hours, initially confirming technical feasibility and providing a ballpark quote. The most important thing at this stage is accurate information — a 5-meter difference in tower height can change the cost by 20%; a different destination port can mean thousands of dollars in shipping difference.
Based on the customer's detailed requirements, we issue a formal PI (Proforma Invoice), including: product specifications, quantity, unit price, FOB/CIF price, lead time, and payment terms (typically 30% T/T advance, 70% before shipment or L/C at sight). After the customer confirms the PI and pays the advance, production is formally scheduled.
Upon receiving the advance payment, the engineering department produces fabrication drawings (2-3 days), and production begins after the customer confirms the drawings. The production cycle depends on quantity and complexity: 10-20 standard towers take about 15 days, 50+ towers about 25 days, and custom special tower types may require 30 days. We send progress photos during production so customers can track manufacturing status at any time.
After welding, the quality inspection phase begins: weld appearance inspection → ultrasonic testing → galvanizing layer thickness measurement → dimension verification → trial assembly. Quality inspection reports are provided with the shipment. If the customer requests third-party inspection (SGS/CIQ, etc.), we coordinate the arrangement; inspection fees are typically borne by the customer.
Steel towers are packaged in fumigation-free wooden crates or steel frame bundles. Each package is labeled with product name, specifications, quantity, and order number. A packing list accompanies every shipment. Packaging methods can be adjusted per customer requirements — if the destination port has special loading equipment limitations, let us know in advance to adjust package dimensions.
From Tianjin Port, shipping to major Southeast Asian ports takes 7-12 days; to Dubai/Dammam in the Middle East about 20-25 days; to Mombasa/Lagos in Africa about 25-35 days; to South America about 30-40 days. We handle the full set of export procedures including booking, customs declaration, and loading. The customer only needs to clear customs and pick up the goods at the destination port. Under CIF terms, freight and insurance are borne by us.
After the goods arrive at the port, the customer uses the bill of lading, packing list, invoice, and certificate of origin (CO/Form E, etc.) to clear customs at the destination port. Customs clearance time varies by country: Southeast Asia 3-5 days, Middle East 5-7 days, Africa 7-14 days. After clearance, arrange truck transport to the project site and verify against the packing list.
