Inside the Yutai Steel Tower Factory: From Steel Inbound to Finished Product Outbound

Many customers ask the same question in their first inquiry: "What does your factory actually look like?" This article takes you on a virtual tour of Yutai Steel Tower's complete production process — from a truck loaded with steel rolling through the factory gate, to galvanized steel towers packed into containers and shipped worldwide.

Station 1: Raw Material Inbound — Q235B/Q345B Steel Inspection

The starting point of a steel tower is the raw material warehouse. We primarily use two types of structural steel: Q235B and Q345B, with plate thicknesses ranging from 4mm to 12mm. Every batch of steel must pass three inspections upon arrival: first, verify the material certificate, checking the heat number and chemical composition; second, measure dimensions, using calipers to sample-check thickness and width; third, conduct re-testing by sending samples to the lab for tensile and yield strength tests. Qualified materials are tagged with a green label and stored; unqualified batches are returned directly.

Station 2: Cutting — CNC Flame/Plasma Cutting

Once drawings are reviewed and confirmed by engineers, nesting begins. Our CNC flame cutting machines and plasma cutting machines can automatically cut angle steel, steel plates, and flanges according to CAD drawings. Cutting accuracy is controlled within ±1.5mm, with smooth, burr-free surfaces. For high-volume standard parts, we use an automated angle steel production line that handles feeding, punching, and cutting in one pass — efficiency is 3x higher than traditional manual cutting.

Station 3: Welding Assembly — Coordinated by Process Cards

Welding is the core of steel tower manufacturing. All our welders hold special operation certificates. We primarily use CO2 gas-shielded welding and submerged arc automatic welding. Before each weld, bevels are ground and tack-welded per the process card; during welding, current, voltage, and travel speed are controlled; after welding, visual self-inspection ensures no undercut, slag inclusion, or porosity. Critical joint welds undergo 100% ultrasonic testing.

Station 4: Hot-Dip Galvanizing — 25-Year Corrosion Protection

After passing welding inspection, tower sections are sent to the galvanizing workshop. The hot-dip galvanizing process: acid pickling to remove rust → water rinse → flux dipping → drying → immersion in 450°C zinc bath → cooling → passivation. Zinc coating thickness is tested per ASTM A123 standard, averaging no less than 75μm, with critical components reaching 120μm or more. This is the foundation of our towers' ability to remain rust-free for 25 years in coastal, high-humidity, and high-salt-spray environments.

Station 5: Quality Inspection & Trial Assembly — 1:1 Pre-Assembly Verification

Before each batch of steel towers leaves the factory, a trial assembly is performed. Tower sections are erected at 1:1 scale to verify flange hole alignment, bolt pass-through rate, tower verticality, and section fit-up gaps. Only batches that pass trial assembly completely are allowed into packaging. This step may seem redundant, but it prevents customers from encountering misaligned holes or bolts that won't go through at the installation site.

Station 6: Packaging & Shipping — Fumigation-Free Crates + Container Loading

The final packaging step uses fumigation-free wooden crates or steel frame bundling, flexibly chosen based on product size and the customer's shipping method. Each package is labeled with product name, specifications, quantity, and order number. A packing list accompanies every shipment. A 40-foot container can carry 15-25 tons of steel towers. From our factory to Tianjin Port is a 3-hour drive; sea freight to Southeast Asia takes about 7-12 days, to the Middle East about 20-25 days, and to Africa about 25-35 days.
