Wind power is a key area of Southeast Asia's energy transition. As Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and other countries announce renewable energy targets, demand for wind measurement towers — an essential prerequisite for wind power projects — is rising. As a Chinese wind measurement tower export factory, we have clearly felt the increase in Southeast Asian orders during 2025-2026. This article analyzes the demand trends for wind measurement towers in the Southeast Asian wind power market.

Vietnam: Southeast Asia's #1 Wind Power Installer

Vietnam ranks first in Southeast Asia for installed wind power capacity, targeting 6GW by 2030. With a 3,260-kilometer coastline, offshore wind potential is enormous. Wind measurement tower demand is concentrated in southern coastal provinces such as Bac Lieu and Soc Trang, with tower heights of 80-120 meters requiring typhoon-resistant design (Vietnam's coastal typhoon season can bring winds of 50m/s).

Thailand: Mainly Onshore Wind

Thailand targets 30% renewable energy by 2037. Wind power projects are mainly concentrated in the central plains, primarily onshore. Wind measurement tower demand is for heights of 40-80 meters, with lower anti-corrosion requirements than Vietnam's coast. However, Thailand has explicit hot-dip galvanizing standards requiring TIS certification.

Indonesia: Special Needs of an Archipelagic Nation

Indonesia comprises over 17,000 islands, with wind projects scattered across them. Wind measurement tower demand is characterized by: small per-order quantities (1-3 towers), transport requiring adaptation to island logistics, and high anti-corrosion requirements (tropical marine climate). We have developed a detachable, modular wind measurement tower for the Indonesian market, reducing single-piece transport dimensions to facilitate inter-island transfer.

Philippines: Offshore Wind Beginning

The Philippines launched its first offshore wind project tender in 2025, with the wind measurement phase expected in 2026-2027. Offshore wind measurement towers have far higher structural strength and anti-corrosion requirements than onshore towers and require special design.

Technical Requirements for Wind Measurement Tower Export

  • Sensor cross-arms: Multi-tier cross-arms per IEC 61400-12 standard, spaced 10-20 meters apart
  • Data acquisition platform: Reserved data logger mounting position and cable routing channels
  • Guy wire system: Three or four tiers of guy wires, 3-4 wires per tier, adjustable tension
  • Anti-corrosion treatment: Zinc layer thickened to 100μm+ for tropical marine climates; guy wire accessories use stainless steel

Export Data

In 2025, our wind measurement tower exports to Southeast Asia grew 35% year-over-year, with main destination ports being Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Laem Chabang (Thailand), and Jakarta (Indonesia). We project that Southeast Asian wind measurement tower demand will continue to grow 20-30% in 2026.
